Secret Shopping Facts

Author : Marcus Peterson

Following the rapid growth of the Secret Shopping industry, recent years have seen myths about this job circulating on the internet, local papers and other forms of mass media. If you are a Secret Shopper aspirant, it is imperative that you learn to differentiate between the facts and fiction associated with this industry. Many people, inspired by Ads on the Internet and other sources, are of the impression that Secret Shopping can lead to the road to riches, which is totally false. Secret Shopping is only meant to be a part-time job that enables you to earn a little side income. Earnings, for example are rarely more than $20 to $40 per assignment. Secret Shopping is not only about the shopping, traveling or getting free gifts. Though you normally dont need prior experience, having customer service experience, good communication and writing skills are a must to become an effective Secret Shopper. Personal qualities like patience, practicality, punctuality etc are also equally important. Therefore, Secret Shopping is a more serious job than most people assume it would be. Another fact Secret Shopper applicants should know is that genuine Secret Shopping Companies do not charge registration, application or training fees. If you come across any Ad that requests money for information or other fees, never respond. This could be the work of some potential scammers, especially if they refused to divulge information about their identity. Secret Shopping is not an easy job where you can make money shopping and drinking coffee all day. Assignments can be tough especially with bigger business setups because crucial management decisions are made according to the evaluation reports you submit. This means that a Secret Shopper has to observe and pay close attention to every detail at all times, which is not exactly a totally stress-free job. Hotel Secret Shoppers provides detailed information on Hotel Secret Shoppers, How To Become A Secret Shopper, Restaurant Secret Shoppers, Secret Shopper Associations and more. Employee Motivation Checklist - Ten Measures of Success

Author : Martin Haworth
In the form of a simple easy to use checklist, you can score how well you are doing out of 10. Better still, ask them. It's like what they describe as a mini-360o, where your people get the chance to give you feedback. Only here it is a lot easier and far far cheaper! But then it's how you handle the results of feedback that counts the most.Scoring gives you focus and a better way of moving forward than some nebulous measure like 'Good' or even 'Excellent'. And that measuring is what can and will prompt you to make the effort to move up a notch or two. Your own 'motivation' will require you to have the same conditions delivered well by your boss, so there is the opportunity to give upwards feedback yourself too. That is such a powerful thing for you to do. Feedback in this way is a high level of intimacy in a business relationship - if you take it up.So, have fun and use this checklist to see if you are doing all you can to 'Motivate' the people in your business.
I have easy, regular conversations with my people /10I have a natural interest in people /10I say 'Thank You' and give praise regularly /10I give credit where it is due /10I treat everyone equally and fairly /10I always keep the promises I make - or I don't make them /10I delegate responsibility wherever I can, with guidance /10My people know exactly what is expected of them /10Challenge is a part of the way we work /10I coach, support and guide my people to their success /10Averaged out, your total score out of ten is /10. So, which one's are those that you can make steps forwards in quickly - what moves your score in the ten areas above, up two or preferably three points? Again, talk with your people - get them to help you! And, having achieved this, you will find a few more tips to follow - the 'Advanced Level' - in a couple of weeks!Copyright 2005 Martin Haworth is a Business and Management Coach. How To Connect Cell Phone To PC?

Author : Mike Singh
These days, people are getting ever more reliant on technology. This is particularly true of communications technology. I remember the days when I had never even seen a cell phone. Today I consider it a gross dereliction of duty to step out of my front door without being completely 100% contactable for every minute of every day. This state of affairs is not just true for business people, it is not even limited to adults, and increasingly kids are keeping in contact with their parents, their coach, their friends and their piano teacher by cell phone, usually to explain why they will be late for an appointment it seems. However, regardless of the fact that this communications revolution involves everyone, there are certain people in certain industries that are far more reliant on communications technology then the rest of us. For these people it is crucial that they can get online, read their emails, and do a host of other tasks that require internet access.Their life has been made a lot easier by certain new technologies such as hotspots and blue tooth. With these new services, you can walk into virtually any coffee shop or airport lobby in the world, open up your laptop and you will immediately be online. This is a truly amazing advance on the connectivity that people could previously achieve and has removed a lot of the need for things such as internet kiosks and phone booths. However, there will be times when you simply cannot get to a star bucks. Difficult as it is to believe, there are still places in the world where you can be stuck without instant internet access and this can be a serious problem for some people in tight situations. Examples of this could include when you are on a train or in a car, when you are broken down at the side of the road, when you are in a small town far from major cities etc. In any of these circumstances, you may need to get online fast but don't know how.Well, the solution is to revert to something that many people did in the past but stopped when the technology moved on. That is connecting your laptop to your laptop and using that to get online. All you need is a cell phone that supports data transmission, which today includes virtually all phones, and a blue tooth, infra red or data cable connection between your phone and your pc. What are you waiting for? Give it a shot!Visit http://www.1-stop-cell-phones.com/ to read articles about sanyo 8100 handsfree speakerphone set and usb data cable sanyo.

Choosing the Right Online Shopping Cart

Author : Evan Stevens
Are you a website owner or a web designer/developer? If either applies, I would venture to say that eventually you'll need an online shopping cart for one of your websites. In fact, almost all new websites today need some sort of ecommerce built-in, for the purpose of selling goods and services in the online marketplace. The greatest challenge is to find the perfect ecommerce shopping cart solution for yourself and/or your client. This task can be very overwhelming, considering, if you type 'shopping cart' into Google.com, this search alone returns over 14.4 million hits! Most of us don't have the time to sift through more than a few pages of a search engine to find what we're looking for.For the last 3 months, much of my time has been devoted to researching as much shopping cart technology as I could get my hands on. In general, shopping cart software ranges in price from free to over $2000 for a single license and web hosted carts range from $5 to hundreds of dollars per month. The studied carts cover the spectrum of all web programming languages (ASP, ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, Flash, Java, JavaScript & Perl shopping carts) and provide limitless features as a whole. The problem is that locating YOUR perfect cart with YOUR specific features can be a big task. But no fear, just follow this guaranteed step-by-step guide to locate it:The Top 10 Steps to Finding the Best Online Shopping CartCostHow much money do you have to spend on an internet shopping cart? The nice advantage is that there are shopping carts with hundreds of features and they don't cost you a dime. They are generally open source products. The only problem is that these same "free shopping carts" can take hours of installation time and be fairly difficult to configure. For a monthly fee, web hosting shopping carts are made for users with little programming experience and allows them to have an online storefront presence in no time.Hosting vs. SoftwareThere are two options in selecting your overall shopping cart solution. Either you get shopping cart software, download it, install it on your web server, then configure the shopping cart OR you get an online storefront (aka a hosted shopping cart) where the configuration is very basic and the required setup time is minimal. If you have some programming skills, I recommend buying a script and installing it on your own. The nice thing is that you pay a one-time fee for shopping cart software and the license is good for a lifetime. It's approximately the same price to have a hosted solution for a year compared to most one time shopping cart license fees.Supported GatewaysWhat do I mean by gateways? Gateways give shopping carts the ability to connect and securely process credit card orders in real-time. Not all shopping carts are created equal. Make sure that your client's merchant account is supported by the cart you select. I have found that almost all carts support the larger online payment processing companies, such as Authorize.net, PayPal and Verisign.Shipping OptionsWill you be shipping physical products? If so, there are shopping carts that have built-in real-time shipping options through DHL, UPS And USPS. Often times, the cart gives the user the ability to view tracking orders and order status all from within your secure shopping cart web interface. Also, there are shopping carts with options to ship digital goods as well (files, programs, pictures, music and others).Technical SupportWhat kind of technical support does your shopping cart offer? If you choose to purchase a script, be sure to also subscribe to the shopping cart creator's newsletter, so that you can stay on top of future updates to the software. Be aware that technical support is generally available on a pay-per-incident basis, as a yearly fee or in the rare case, free. Be sure to know what kind of customer support guarantee the shopping cart comes with.SecurityPlease, only buy a shopping cart if it supports SSL (secure socket layer), with 128-bit encryption. As an online storefront, remember that you are responsible for the safe transfer of sensitive information (credit card and bank account information) that is processed through your store. If any of the sensitive information is accessible (stolen) from your website, you could be liable. Be sure that you're purchasing a secure shopping cart solution. Ask the creator's of the shopping cart what they do specifically to protect the secure transfer of sensitive information.Style CompatibilityCan you customize your shopping cart to look like your website? There needs to be a seamless transition between your website and your shopping storefront or your customers might get hesitant in purchasing your products. There should be similar colors and style layout to look professional and believable.Extra FeaturesI just wanted to mention some of the other features that I have discovered, which might be a critical point in determining the shopping cart you want.Affiliate Program - Offer your own customized affiliate program through your shopping cart software. Quickbooks Integration - Many carts allow direct integration with Quickbooks.Newsletter & Mailing Letter Managers - The ability to stay in touch with your current customers and keep them returning to your online store.Custom Taxing Options - Create taxable or tax-free products and have the ability to add various global tax options at checkout.World Languages & Currencies - Shopping cart language translation and support for world currency might be a necessary feature for your cart.Error FreeYou mean shopping carts can have errors? Of course. A private UK-based web testing firm found the following, after studying a large group of UK online shopping carts for a period of one month (24/7):"The majority of UK web sites are guilty of leaving e-consumers stranded at the checkout empty handed, once they have already spent valuable time browsing and selecting goods to purchase. This is due to erratic functionality within shopping carts, at a critical step in the online purchasing process.""E-consumers are prevented from making purchases on UK web sites for 9 hours and 30 minutes a month on average, (115 hours a year)." "80 per cent of web sites perform inconsistently with widely varying response times, timeouts and errors - leaving consumers at best wondering what to do next and at worst unable to complete their purchase successfully. This is potentially costing e-retailers millions in lost sales from consumer frustrations." (http://www.scivisum.co.uk/report/ecommerce/)Be sure to see what other users are saying about a shopping cart that you might be interested in purchasing. Any shopping cart errors could cost you thousands of dollars in sales. Get a stable and secure cart.Shopping Cart DirectoryThe following is a link containing a directory of shopping carts that are categorized according to each of the above-stated steps. Make shopping for shopping carts a breeze!Shopping Cart DirectoryIf you have any questions or comments about this article, please contact the author.About The AuthorEvan Stevens (http://www.evanstevens.com) is a professional web developer. What is Spam Anyway?

Author : Richard Lowe

I've found when people discuss spam they really have no idea
what they are talking about. There are as many different
definitions of spam as there are people. In point of fact, this
factor alone (not being able to define what spam is and what it
consists of) makes it virtually impossible to control.

In order to control spam, a useful definition is necessary. Why?
Simple. In order to control something, you must know what you
are controlling. When you understand the basic facts, then you
can take whatever course of action is necessary. Until you
achieve that understanding, you will be shooting blindly at an
undefined target. This makes it very difficult to actually do
anything useful.

So on that note, what kind of definitions for spam work and
don't work?

Commonly spam is defined as unsolicited email. Unfortunately,
this definition by itself is NOT spam and means absolutely
nothing. What's wrong with it? This definition does not help you
solve the problem, and thus is incorrect. If this definition was
true, then to prevent spam you would have to somehow contact a
person to ask them if you could send them an email.

For example, I don't generally call someone on the phone and ask
them for an email message. That would be silly. In fact, by
definition most email is unsolicited; I don't, for example,
expect my wife or a friend to ask me if it's okay to send me a
message.

Sometimes spam is defined as emails that are from unknown
sources. Hmm. This really doesn't work well either. I'll get
emails from my website from people I don't know - these are not
spam. Also, sometimes my friends will pass my email address to
their friends, who send me email. These are also not spam, even
though they were from an unknown source and were unsolicited.

How about just plain annoying emails? That seems to be the
definition that most people have in mind when they mention spam.
If the email is annoying in some manner, and especially if it
was unsolicited, it is spam. This definition probably gets a
little closer to the heart of the matter, but it really doesn't
define spam well.

What about unsolicited bulk email? This definition gets a little
bit closer but it still doesn't really define spam well. I mean
I give my email address to my bank and I really didn't ask them
to send me emails (although I didn't ask them not to as well).
Yet I would not call this spam as I do business with the bank.
Their emails might be annoying, but since I have a business
relationship with the bank I expect them to communicate with me
occasionally.

Okay, so what is spam?

I like to think of spam as "unethical mass email". By this I
mean emails which violate the netiquette standards of the
majority of users of the internet.

Note that by this definition, an individual email sent to a
person is not spam. A commercial email, however, is another
matter. Even a single commercial email might be unethical if it
does not follow the rules below.

Ethical emails are targeted well towards their audience.
Unethical emails are mass mailings sent out blindly to a large
number of people.

These are emails that are sent to thousands, tens of thousands,
even millions of people, hoping against hope that a few dozen
will be stupid or greedy enough to respond. These emails are
untargeted and will not pertain to the majority of the
recipients. Since the majority of the people reading the message
(usually upwards of 99%) will simply delete it immediately, this
makes the mailing unethical.

Ethical email messages include valid email header information.
This information properly identifies the sender of the message.
In addition, all of the other header data in the message is
correct.

Spam messages often have forged or invalid email headers. This
means it is difficult (if not virtually impossible) to trace the
source of the email based upon the header information within the
email message. Since the sender of the message cannot be
identified the message is unethical. In this case, even a single
email message would count as spam.

Ethical mailings include a method for opting out which actually
works.

If you run a newsletter or do any kind of mass mailing, you must
include at least one method of removal in the email message
itself. This removal method (and more than one is preferable)
MUST WORK. Some things which I often see in opt-out schemes
which ARE NOT VALID include the following:

- Any email message which states that the reader must go to a
web site, log in and then modify his email preferences is
UNETHICAL. This requires too much information from the user and
forces him to do too much work.

- If the email message includes an unsubscribe link (or other
means) which does not work, then it is UNETHICAL.

- Messages which validly allow for opt-out but then say "you
will be removed in a week" or some other long period of time are
UNETHICAL. These are computers people, and there is no reason to
include these long delays. Remove the person immediately.

Ethical mass mailings are double-opt-in. This means after a
person signs up for the mailing list, he receives a confirmation
message. He must either reply to this message or click a link to
activate the mailings to him. Any other form of opt-in is
UNETHICAL as it allows people to be subscribed by others or by
accident.

Ethical mailings do not include webbugs, set cookies or perform
any kind of involuntary tracking.

Email messages are often opened up by the recipient before he
knows anything about the message. This means if you are doing
any kind of tracking, the person has no way to stop it, short of
blocking the receipt of the message entirely. This lack of a
choice on the part of the recipient makes this kind of tracking
UNETHICAL. The only time this would be ethical is if it was
clearly stated when the user signed up for the mailing. In that
instance, this behavior is known and this makes it ethical. Note
that while the web site privacy policy should state this fact,
it must also be stated clearly on the page where the person
actually signs up for the mailing.

Ethical mailers do not use email harvesters. Using special
robots to gather email addresses from web sites is UNETHICAL.
These email addresses are generally included on web sites to
allow individuals to communicate with individuals. Rarely is the
intention to join a mass mailing list distributed on CD. ALL
USES OF EMAIL HARVESTING IS UNETHICAL.

Ethical mailers do not take advantage of open relays or use
other "spammer tricks". If you are legitimate, then there is no
need to attempt to hide your whereabouts or cover your tracks.
Using a relay without permission or sending millions of emails
through an unprotected formmail script is simply bad manners.

Get the idea? Spamming is NOT sending someone one or more email
messages without their express permission. Spamming is simply
ignoring the rights of others (your audience, system
administrators and even the users of the internet as a whole).
That's all it is.

Public Relations

Author : Ross Bainbridge

Though the press release is the most common Public Relations tool, it is just one of the many means to gain free publicity. Here are some other avenues to explore:By-line articles can be written about your area of interest and can be published either online or in niche publications that serve your industry. Besides getting your name in print, writing articles instantly establishes you as an expert in your field. This has a dual benefit. One, customers start trusting you and want to buy from you rather than your competition. Two, reporters look to you for comments when writing their own stories on your industry giving you even more free publicity. Write an interactive expert-advice column and answer common queries from customers and other interested audiences. This gives you a platform to interact directly with your customers and gain their trust. It establishes you as a preferred expert who reporters turn to for comments and predictions. Seek opportunities to speak at public events that focus on your industry. Local chambers of commerce are a good place to start. Public speaking is like making a captive cold call. You get to address many consumers at the same time. And of course, you get recognized as an expert.Letters to the editor are a very neglected source of free publicity. Since fewer people are competing for this space, your chances of getting published are higher. Very often, your letter may get published with editorial comments or you may have other readers commenting on your opinions. This allows you to continue the discussion, keeping your name and views in print for a longer time. This is also a way to build an ongoing relationship with the editor, helping you pitch future stories to the publication. Teachers are always experts, right? Volunteer to teach a few classes in your area of expertise. This earns you top of the mind recall and goodwill, especially with future recruits. Whenever you use one of these PR tools, be sure to prominently include your contact information and website URL so that your audience and the press can reach you. Public Relations for Outside Advertising Firms

Author : Lance Winslow
Outside Advertising Firms know they need to continually propel public relations and of course this is not as easy done as said. Sure you can advertise for every worthy cause in the community on City Buses, Billboards and park benches, but in the end those spaces need to be sold to make money and if every thing has a public relations or non-profit piece on it.True but if you do this, well you are not generating the revenues that you need to maintain your business. But if you can sponsor Public Service Announcements on things that you may not normally be able to make money on then you win and the community wins. The community wins in advertising a community event, issue or something of importance and you win due to the positive public relations it generates. For instance what if you made a deal with the Park and Recreation Department to paint all the trashcans and put decals on them for a cause?Your costs are next to nothing and you can put your logo on the bottom for sponsoring the message to the public. Everyone wins and you generate excellent Public Relations. Most of the best Public Relations Campaigns are this sort of out of the can type of creative programs. So, please consider this in 2006.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. If you have innovative thoughts and unique perspectives, come think with Lance; www.WorldThinkTank.net/wttbbs/

Activities specifically designed for your staff and their unique challenges so that the lessons learned will be maintained long after the event is over and you receive a good return on your investment.
If conflicts run deep, it’s often advisable to bring in an objective professional to choreograph activities for conflict resolution. Your planned activities may stem from your best intentions, but if they are not designed and monitored carefully by a specialist, the process can blow up and potentially become worse than it was at the start.Following is an example of of some fun and informative activities and programs we have had success with. This example will give you an idea of how to approach conflict resolution within your organization.Orientation/Context:
Participants are given an understanding of the experiential program and how it can benefit them as well as their team, department and /or organization. Additional topics focus on personal safety, importance of support, how to enter the learning zone, and other key points that invite participation.Paired Shares:
In a structured one on one format participants meet and converse with many different colleagues. Each conversation and the subsequent progression (4-5 different topics) are specifically designed to get the group more connected and comfortable with each other and help anchor points made in the previous context phase.Shape It Up:
While seated and blindfolded the team must discover the answer to an equation that involves colored plastic shapes. This event requires clear and descriptive communication, open and non-biased listening, and consensus.Diminishing Resources:
As work projects and demands continue to rise to a shrinking time line and budget, moods and effectiveness may deteriorate. This simulation catches the team assuming too much and supporting too little until one brave member begins to share his/her knowledge (thus reducing stress and effort) with the team.Debrief:
At the conclusion of each simulation, the team is given an opportunity to assess their performance. Discussions involve the poignant insights they have gained or been introduced to and how these relate to their developmental leadership stage, career and/or office environment etc.Sharing/Close:
Small group discussions regarding stages of leadership development and where they perceive themselves to be (i.e., novice, moderately competent, proficient). Or they can discuss one area in their realm where they’ve had a great breakthrough and one area that needs attention/support etc.The groups will be brought together for the last time of the day/evening. This is a final opportunity for the entire group to share, cross learn and connect about key insights and critical points (i.e., leadership, communication, teaming, and shared successes) that were experienced during the program. Variation for constricted time lines: A representative from each team shares a highlight and insight about the teams experiences with the other groups. This outline is an approximation only. The value of these activities comes not from the events so much as from the insight and dialogue the events inspire. Therefore, if learning from a particular event and subsequent debrief is going exceptionally well, we suggest you deviate from the aforementioned outline in order to solidify and deepen the learning potential. This will tend to promote further dialogue related to this subject at a further time.ABOUT THE AUTHOR

How to Secure the Best Mortgage Deal and Save Yourself Thousands in Interest

Author : Rhiannon Williamson
When you consider that the average home owner will pay out far more in interest over the lifetime of their mortgage than their home actually cost in the first place, you can see why working to secure yourself the best possible mortgage deal now could save you tens of thousands of dollars in interest over the 25 â€" 30 year lifetime of your home loan. For the majority of us our house is the single most important and expensive purchase we ever make! Because this is the case we invest a lot of time and effort into finding the perfect property in the most ideal location, however few of us invest the time and effort we should into researching and securing the best possible finance method for purchasing our home. This article will give you a few pointers to make the search for the most ideal and personally suitable mortgage that much simpler; and bear in mind that your search for the best loans and repayment vehicles currently available can be carried out on the internet, making the whole process that much more convenient and time efficient for you.Step One - Firstly you need to understand the different types of mortgage that are available - they come in many flavours! By taking the time to understand the way the different types of loan work, you can see which type suits you and your personal circumstances best â€" after all it most certainly isn’t a case of one mortgage type suiting all people! At their most simple level most mortgages fall into one of the following categories. Different lenders will have their own variations on the theme, but if you understand the basics of the following loan categories you will be armed with sufficient data to move on to step two.Fixed Rate Mortgages â€" a borrower pays a fixed interest rate for a fixed period of time and usually the longer the fixed period the higher the fixed rate. This type of mortgage protects the borrower from interest rate fluctuations and payment uncertainties but it does mean that when the loan term begins the borrower is usually paying above the best interest rates available. In the US and most other countries apart from the UK you can have a fixed rate for the duration of your mortgage. In the UK it is usual to only fix for a maximum of 10 years.Adjustable or Variable Rate â€" the rate of interest payable by a borrower can vary. Lenders usually keep their interest rate fluctuations in line with the Bank of England’s base rate in the UK and the rate set by the Federal Reserve Board in the US. Certain lenders offer discounted variable rates for home loans for a fixed period to attract borrowers. The attraction of this type of mortgage is that initial rates are usually far lower than offered under the terms of a fixed rate mortgage…however over a period of time the interest rates can rise considerably and make borrowing far more expensive. Furthermore the fluctuations make it difficult for a borrower to know how much he will be paying from one month or one year to the next.To offset the risk associated with an adjustable rate mortgage some lenders offer ‘capping’ options. Sometimes they fix the maximum level to which the interest rate you are subject to can rise for a given period of time, sometimes they fix the cap per year and sometimes for the lifetime of the mortgage.Balloon Mortgages â€" popular in the US with homeowners who aren’t planning to stay in their new home for life, these mortgages are usually repayable in 5 â€" 7 years. They offer the advantage of lower interest rates but the disadvantage that if you are still in the home after the 5 or 7 year period you have to secure a new loan to pay off the balloon mortgage!Jumbo Mortgages or 'Non-Conforming' Mortgages â€" the UK doesn’t have an equivalent of this US loan type. Basically in the US there is a legislated purchase limit set each year by the Federal National Mortgage Association (nicknamed Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (nicknamed Freddie Mac), a jumbo loan allows the borrower to borrow over and above this amount but for the privilege they will incur higher interest rates.Step Two â€" having identified which type of mortgage probably suits you best you need to consider repayment methods and you basically have two to choose from: -Interest Only â€" your monthly repayments to your lender cover only the interest on the loan meaning that nothing you pay back goes towards repaying the borrowed amount; it is up to you to establish some form of savings vehicle over the lifetime of the loan period into which you pay sufficient sums to ensure you have enough capital at the end of the loan period to pay back the amount borrowed.Capital & Interest â€" your monthly repayments are divided into an interest payment and a capital repayment. In the early years of the loan period most of the monthly payment is swallowed up in interest but over time the balance swaps and you start to pay off more of the capital sum borrowed.Step Three â€" Now you know which mortgage type and which repayment method you favour it’s time to find the right lender! There are so many lenders offering such a variety of loans that at first it can seem a daunting prospect trying to determine which lender most suits you! However, depending on the strength of your credit record, your current employment position, how much you would like to borrow and how much of a down payment you are in a position to make, some lenders will rule themselves out and some will seem more attractive to you.It is possible to approach an independent mortgage broker or independent financial adviser to assist you with your search. Such an individual will examine the product market place and apply his expertise to locating the best lender to suit his client’s requirements. Most of these brokers are paid a commission by the lender when you take out your mortgage; however some also charge you a fee. Make sure you find out from the broker whether you will be charged as this is potentially an additional fee you could well do without! Finally â€" there are a lot of informative sites and tools like mortgage calculators available on the internet to provide you with, for example, an idea of how much you can borrow and the most efficient borrowing and repayment method to suit you and also to give you an insight into the lenders themselves.By making use of all the tools and resources available to you and by doing your home work you will be informed and this will strengthen your loan buying position.Rhiannon Williamson is the publisher of http://www.shelteroffshore.com/ - the online resource for offshore and international real estate investors. If you’re thinking of buying real estate abroad for investment or retirement, or you’re searching for a dream holiday home in the sun visit http://www.shelteroffshore.com/index.php/property/ for a comprehensive range of free guides and articles to help you on your way, or to contact an international mortgage broker.

Get Dressed and Get Hired

Author : Terrance

Tying a tie properly may tie you to your next employer. A properly tied tie is essential to a good first impression. With the recent outcry regarding athletes wearing flip-flops to the White House, its apparent that a review of socially acceptable fashion rules is needed.

Gone are the days of Leave It To Beaver and other such shows which often depicted the strong leader of the family proudly donning a suit and tie for his daily job and any other social occasion. Todays impressionable society takes more cues from the Internet than from Nick at Nite.

Formal Friday night dinners are a thing of the past and many churches have relaxed their dressing expectations, so its possible that a young man could get through college without ever having to tie a tie. Even if they went to a formal dance they may have worn a clip-on bow tie.

Many young men graduating from college dont get hired because of the way they present themselves. They have a general disregard in how they dress for their interviews and when its time to knock the socks off of a potential employer, the focal point of their suit is out of focus.

A professional appearance can be as important as a complete resume. Prospective employers look for consistency in a potential employee. Even the most polished resume does not coordinate with an applicant in a t-shirt and jeans. Wearing a suit without a tie is like avoiding a handshake or leaving your name off an application. If an applicant wants to set themselves apart from others, theyll take the extra steps to present the complete package.

A poorly knotted tie projects sloppiness and reflects poorly on ones abilities. Take the time to learn the proper way to tie ties because youre worth it and your professional career may depend on it!

Temperature Requirements of Exotic Pets

Author : hazel

The rich and famous are known for starting all types of trends and one of the latest is using pets for fashion accessories. Famous for nothing Paris Hilton and pop starlet Britney Spears are just a few of the individuals in the limelight carrying small pocket sized pets as accessories. However, while this trend seems to be taking off and many stars as well as the not so famous have purchased pets to accessorize their wardrobes it really is not a trend that the general population should follow.Knowing the Temperature Requirements of Exotic PetsSo, you want to get an exotic pet, huh? Maybe you are tired of your regular dog and your good old cat. Maybe the bird joyfully chirping outside your window isn't good enough for you anymore. You want more challenge and adventure, as a pet owner. You want to take on the challenge of taking care of exotic animals as pets. Yes, exotic animals like skunks, spiders, and snakes. What are exotic pets like? But before you do just that, you have to know the proper condition of the type of exotic pet you intend to take care of. Mostly, exotic pets can't live in the same condition such as yours. You first have to know its habitat temperature requirements. For starters, try to research things about the pet and the particular species that you want. From where do these animals come from? Do they come from cold countries like Antarctica? Or hot ones like Kenya and South Africa? Many people are in search of the perfect pet. Whether you are single, newly married, married with four children, or about to retire, there are some things to consider when you begin looking to include a pet into your family. When you think of having a pet, you most likely think you have to choose between having a dog or a cat, but in reality there are countless animals that can become ideal pets. The room temperature of the animals you intend to take care of should be maintained to match their natural habitat. If they are used to cold weather and you are in an equally cold country, like the U.S., then you should be fine. What about if they are used to a hot, humid place? That is going to be a problem, for sure. If you intend to take care of an exotic pet that is used to weather not similar to yours, then the pets will definitely not survive long. The only thing that you can do is to set up a room and make its temperature akin to what the animal is used to.Temperature is really important. So the next time you intend to take an oriental exotic animal to your relatively cold country, think twice. You might not be making a good decision. The pet you intend to take care of may not even last for a few days. It is just going to be a waste. So the main thing here is, don't get exotic pets originating from relatively hot countries, unless you really wanted to go into great heights simulating their natural habitat for them. If you are fine with that, then you can go ahead and take care of that pet. But if that is simply too much of a hassle for you, then dont do it. It may not be worth it. In a recent discussion about pet safety, the services provided by a website entitled RecoveryPets.Com was compared to microchips and tattoos, and were they a better option to providing identification for pets. During this discussion a lot of statements were made and taken for fact, but here we will dispel some of those myths.Would you like to buy exotic pets? Where would you get exotic pets for sale?

To Blog or Not To Blog: While Making Money Online

Author : Matthew Bredel
One of the biggest crazes associated with making money online these days centers around blogs. Only in the last year or so has web-logging or "blogging" (a fancy way of referring to an internet diary which can be make public) really been a major way of communication on the world wide web. Its initial intensions were to provide internet users a place to share their feelings, opinions and ideas. Of course, everything in the world these days that starts out simple with good intensions becomes tarnished by the desire to make money. I hate to admit it, but I am not an exception to this rule, either.I became an internet marketer about 7 months ago and like most affiliate marketers, my roots began through reading eBooks. Many of the recent "updates" to these money-making programs focuses on using blogs as a means of an inexpensive (free) place to create landing pages (pages which you link your potential customers to in order to promote your product). There are three main ways to promote products:1) Promote products by directly linking to the seller's website. This is fairly competitive these days.2) Create your own landing page by having your own website.3) Create your own landing page by having a blog or using a free website.I have tried direct promotion with little luck in the past. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is irrelevant and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) services (like Yahoo Overture and Google Adwords) is very competitive. This is because services like Adwords will only allow one sponsored URL per search. High niche keywords and unique keywords are required to even compete (and be seen) if you plan on having a modest advertising budget. A landing page is much more successful and easy to promote, in my opinion.Do you create your own website or use a free website, like a blog? Let's review the pros and cons of creating a blog (versus your own site).Blog Benefits:1) Cheap: They are free! Creating your own website requires you to pay for domain names and monthly hosting fees.2) Little to no web design experience required. Excellent templates and designs already available. Creating your own website requires some technical expertise or additional fees in paying someone to do it for you.3) Flexibility to create your own unique, content and ad-copy. Same with creating your own website, just broader.4) Excellent for Search Engine Optimization. Blog sites such as Blogspot are linked with Google, which improves your probability of high, free search results.Blog Cons:1) Lack of flexibility of design. You are usually constrained to the templates and designs that are offered by the site.2) Possible sponsored ads on your site that you do not get paid for. Blogspot allows you to add your own advertising, such as Adwords, but most require that they place their own ads.3) Some free sites and blogs disallow your own domain name. This creates ugly, non-memorable website URL names. The free sites that allow unique domains names usually delay its activation by months.4) Not professional looking. This may not be a bad thing, depending on the type of product you are promoting.5) Lack of vistor track-ability. Being able to trace links, clicks and visitor statistics can be very critical to a successful campaign. Blog and free sites may not provide the accessibility to install tracking code. The Verdict:I have done both free blog and creating my own website in the past and I have found much more success with your own website versus a blog or free website. Being able to track my visitors can be extremely useful. I spent the time to learn web design and now, adding new content to my site can take LESS time now than with a blog. Price-wise, a domain and host can cost less than $10 per month. While I was able to make money through my blog, sales almost TRIPLED with my own site. While I promote making your own website, there are definitely benefits to having a commercial blog. Specifically, the SEO of a blog can be rather powerful! Ideally, my best suggestion is to create your own website that sells your product while creating and maintaining a good-content blog that links two-way links to your site.Matthew is a 31 year old online entrepreneur and engineer currently living in San Diego, CA.Visit http://www.TheWebReviewer.com for more money making articles, resources and reviews on today's hottest online money making ventures.Copyright 2006

How to Make Your Apartment Safe

Author : Kyle Thomas Haley
There are special dangers involved with apartment living. This is because you live so close to many other people. Their actions can jeopardize your safety and so itÂ’s very important for you to be aware of what you must do to safeguard yourself, your family and your possessions.

Fire Safety . . .

Fire is perhaps the greatest danger in apartment buildings. With so many units joined together, it doesnÂ’t take long for fire to spread from one to another. The following guidelines are critical to your safety:

• Install smoke detectors in the kitchen, all bedrooms, the laundry area and hallways. You must test them every month and replace the batteries every 6 months. They won’t do you any good if they aren’t in working order.

• Keep fire extinguishers handy in the kitchen, laundry area and near your outside grill.

• Develop an escape plan. This plan should include two ways of exiting Ââ€" in most cases, this will probably include the main door and either a window or door wall. If you live on a higher floor and donÂ’t have access to a fire escape, purchase a rope ladder to use for exiting from windows or a balcony. Practice your escape plan regularly so each member of your family knows exactly what to do in case of fire.

• Never use an elevator during a fire.

• Never park in front of fire hydrants or in fire lanes and make sure your guests don’t either.

General Safety . . .

Fire isnÂ’t the only danger in an apartment building. You must also be aware of hazards that can exist no matter where you live and take precautions to prevent them.

• Install a carbon monoxide detector.

• Install screen guards or window stops and doorstops on your patio door to protect your children from falling.

• Keep your apartment and building number near the telephone so your family or babysitter can access it in case of an emergency. Remember that memories can fail during emergencies.

• Make certain your apartment number is clearly marked on your door.

• Be sure that each person in your family knows how to dial 911.

Protecting from Intruders . . .

There are many people coming and going in an apartment complex. Criminals count on this anonymity. That makes it very important to get to know the other tenants. When you do, not only are you better able to identify someone who doesnÂ’t belong, it also makes it more likely that tenants will look out for one another.

• Consider forming an “apartment watch”. This is similar to a neighborhood watch but confined to your apartment complex. If a group of tenants is on the alert for suspicious behavior, they can prevent many problems from arising.

• Install quality deadbolt locks on your door and place a wooden rod or steel brace on sliding doors. One caution about deadbolt locks Ââ€" donÂ’t purchase those that require a key. In an emergency, you wonÂ’t have time to search for the key.

• Make sure your landlord has installed good lighting in all stairways, hallways, and common areas like the laundry room.

• Make sure that if your building has a common entry, the entry door locks so that only tenants can enter. Never open that door for strangers.

If you follow these guidelines, practice good common sense, and are alert to whatÂ’s going on around you, your apartment will provide a safe home for you and your family.

Working with Royalty Free Music

Author : Alan Steward
When creating Multi-Media Content, Flash or Video Clips for a client's web site or CD Rom Project, the last thing you want is to get him in trouble with the law. If there's a need for music in a project, using royalty free music is essential. Here are some general music tips that you may find useful:1) Finding the right kind of musicThere are hundreds of choices when it comes to royalty free music and making the right decision can be hard. After all, most TV production companies have music supervisors on staff whose only job it is to select appropriate music for projects. Selecting music is an art in itself. In general, you will find that your clients would prefer to use something they heard on the radio, something from their favorite album etc. Unfortunately, that's copyrighted stuff and licensing an N Sync song for your next 'how to' video or CD-Rom may cost you a fortune. What you want to do is find buyout music that sounds similar to today's popular music. It's a little harder to find than your typical 'canned' music. A lot royalty free music may sound like music from a 70's sitcom or worse, a cheap porno flick.A good place to check out is http://www.buyoutmusictracks.com All their tracks are created by established record producers with grammy and gold record credits so you get music that sounds as up-to-date as what you may hear on the radio. Our tip: Always use music that sounds just a little more energetic than you think you may need. You may listen to the music over and over while you're putting together your project while the end user may only hear it a few times.2) Less is not more in production musicWhen you are looking for background music for a project, choose music with some impact. I know it is supposed to be background music but if you choose high energy tracks, your whole project will leave more of an impression. Listen to a sampling of today's TV commercials and you'll find that most of them use very powerful music. You want your work to create an impact and keep viewer's attention and a strong, powerful soundtrack can do that.3) When 'legal' music is not legalThe usage license on your buyout music CD may be very liberal but it is not a license to steal. You can use royalty free music on all of your projects and as you have the legal right to use the music, your customers can be assured not to get into legal troubles. However, that license is only extended to you, the purchaser. You cannot transfer that license by copying your CD and giving it to somebody else or by selling the CD. This may be news to you but there's no such thing as a 'used buyout music CD' If you don't purchase the music from the producers of the music, it won't be legal still. So, next time you browse Ebay for royalty free music, make sure you are buying a new CD, not a used one or it will be useless to you.4) You get what you pay forWhile we're on the topic of Ebay: You may find offers for entire 4 or 6 CD libraries for $75 or other ridiculously low prices on Ebay. The truth is, these CDs may not even be worth that low price. One good quality royalty free music CD will cost you between $29 and $69 (some even more) If it's less than that, here's what you are likely to get:Discontinued titles that have been around for 10, 20 or more and not only sound dated but may also have already found its way unto hundreds or thousands of other projects during the years to make your own project sound dated.Homegrown CDs that are created in somebody's bedroom studio. You can easily recognize these CDs as they usually don't have any 'real' instruments on it, only synthesized stuff. You can clearly hear the difference between those CDs and something produced in a real studio with real musicians. Our tip: Check out http://www.buyoutmusictracks.com for music. Each of their CDs is only $29.95 and each title contains between 30 and 48 real studio recorded tracks.5) CD or Download? With the event of high speed internet, you don't really have to wait anymore to receive your Royalty Free Music CD in the mail. If you need tracks fast, you can now download buyout music from the net. You can choose only the tracks you need and get to use them within minutes. Single downloadable tracks usually cost a little more money per track than buying a whole CD. On the other hand, you don't have to buy a whole CD if you only need one or two tracks. My advice, if you are buying music to 'keep on the shelf' for future projects and for your customers to choose from, buy physical CDs. If you need just one or two 'perfect' tracks or if you are on a deadline, downloadable purchases may be perfect for you. I don't know if I have to mention it, but purchasing a Mariah Carey track from Itunes or Napster for a buck does not entitle you to use the music. You have to download your music from a buyout music company so the track is licensed to you.6) Make your ownYou may think, 'are you crazy? I'm not a musician' You don't have to be a music genius anymore these days. Bullet Resistant Glass of the Future; Transparent Nano Tubes

Author : Lance Winslow
In the uncertain world of chaos and conflict we find ourselves in situations where hostile human intentions seem to be problematic. While attempting to restore order from chaos, we find ourselves needing to first protect ourselves while dancing with the devil. Philosophically thinking this is a good over all perspective in explaining the difficulty involved in peace keeping. If only it were that simple; you see those hostile humans with evil intentions are indeed trying to kill us, using real bullets. Thus we need stronger bulletproof glass. Glass that when hit, is still transparent and remains undamaged and clear.Nano Tubes when made are transparent unless otherwise conditioned to a certain color during the manufacturing process. This fact makes them person for bulletproof glass as they are 100 times stronger than steel. Great for cars, imagine the additional abilities of your car if it were see through, you would have total visibility? The area the current window might be the whole car or as much as you wanted at the time. It could be made to see one way. Nano Tube transparency is worthy for many uses; great for all sorts of things, such as storm windows, which could stop flying debris from a Category Five Hurricane. Nano tube manufacturing will create light weight transparent windows for better mileage, performance and strength, think on this."Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. View from the Stage: Small World

Author : Gary Wesselhoff
Small WorldLookin' at the stats for my web-site; four percent of my traffic this month comes from Thailand. It kinda makes me think that the blues is universal and even in Thailand they get the blues. So I surfed and guess what? They've got the blues! They've got Creole Samui playing Thai blues at a New Orleans Style bar (except instead of serving Hurricanes, they serve Typhoons), "The Big Buddha Blues Band" (they get down—with purpose no doubt), and also the Soi Dog Blues Band—(and you thought dog was a delecacy)…It's universal I tell you. Last month the United Kingdom and Hungary took an interest in my site, a few folks from the Netherlands poked around there too. It's a small world after all. It would be cool to do an MTV type video based on Wallyworld's "It's a small, small world" ride, where the boat would be sailing down the river, and it would be BLUES PLAYERS from all over the world singin' their woes in miniature jail cells, unemployment lines, flop houses, and alleyways. The blues may have started in the Mississippi Delta, but it has spread to all ends of the earth—not the blues proper, but the expression of it. It's a story that has to be told; Over and Over and Over. The blues, the whole Blues, and nothin' but the Blues.Gary "g-man" Wesselhoff is an acoustic blues writer/performer woking the Chicago Metro area. You can contact him at: gman@gmanblues.com

This will bring you some additional traffic and even
increase your credibility.5. Write reviews. You can write some reviews on other people's products
and put each of them in an autoresponder. You can even
review your own affiliate programs and patch your
affiliate link to it.6. Offer a product trial.Give your visitors a sample of your ebook, script,
membership, etc. In most cases, people given a taste
will end up dying for the whole pie. Just don't forget
to follow up and close the sale.7. Distributing reports. This way you're telling people in what field you're really

How to Choose the Perfect Handbag

Author : Tanya Turner

There are so many handbags on offer, how to select the one that would complement your figure and go with most of your outfits? See fashion expert tips.

What purse style would work best with your figure?

Never mind the current fashion: your handbag should first of all complement your figure. A tiny purse on a largish woman looks a bit silly. But even though large bags are in fashion now, don"t go overboard, otherwise the bag will distract attention from your person.

If you are slim and tall, go for a round or square shaped purse. If you are not very tall, a bottle shaped handbag would look best. And, of course, a not very large backpack works perfectly for any figure.

Most handbags have adjustable handles, so make use of them. Large bags should never hang at the level of your hips: if necessary shorten the handle, so the bag comes to your waist line. And if you wear a backpack, it should not hang down over your backside: adjust the handles so it is just above your waist. This looks better, doesn"t put as much pressure on your lower back, and forces you to keep a good posture.

What color should you choose?

These days handbags are very colorful. Of course, this means that you can no longer have just one bag that would go with any outfit you wear. However, if you wear a lot of blue, orange or green, a matching color purse would make your outfit complete. Fruit prints are currently in", with the most popular being cherries, peaches and apples.

As far as prints go, a plain, one-color handbag is more practical as it is easier to match with your clothes. However, if you wear a single-colored dress, adding a bright, multicolored handbag might be a good idea.

Also each season of the year favors different handbag colors. All greens are very popular in spring, while red and orange are often seen in autumn. Winter favorites are white and all shades of blue.

And, of course, black is still a classic, which goes with any outfit. Brown handbags, too, are still popular although they are not very practical: a brown bag would only work with brown or beige clothing.

What are most fashionable purse materials?

Leather is always a classic, and it works for any situation and with any outfit. However, other purse materials are fashionable now. Fabric bags can look very stylish, as well as a mix of fabric and leather. Straw bags are simple, and create a great look for the summer. Moreover, since straw looks very natural, it works well with a summer outfit of any color.

ASP, CGI and PHP Scripts and Record-Locking: What Every Webmaster Needs To Know

Author : Sunil Tanna

Many of us install server-side (ASP, CGI or PHP) scripts on our
web sites, and many of this scripts store data on the server.
However, poorly designed scripts can experience performance
problems and sometimes even data corruption on busy (and not so
busy) web sites.

If you're not a programmer, why should this matter to you?

Answer: Even if you're just installing and using server-side
scripts, you'll want to make sure that the scripts that you
choose don't randomly break or corrupt your data.

First, some examples of the types of scripts which store data on
web servers include:

(Of course, many scripts in each of these (and other) categories
are well-designed, and run perfectly well even on very busy web
sites).

1. Follow-up autoresponders typically store the list of
subscribers to the autoresponder, as well where in the sequence
of messages, each subscriber is. Examples of autoresponder
scripts: http://www.scriptcavern.com/scr_email_auto.php

2. Classified ad scripts store (at least) a list of all the
classified ads placed by visitors. Examples of this type of
script: http://www.scriptcavern.com/scr_classified.php

3. Free for all links scripts store a list of all links posted
by visitors. See some example scripts listed at:
http://www.scriptcavern.com/scr_ffa.php

4. Top site scripts usually store a list of the members of the
top site as well as information about the number of "votes" that
each has received. For examples of this type of script, see
http://www.scriptcavern.com/scr_topsite.php

So what kind of scripts have problems? And what sort of problems
am I talking about?

Well the principle problems all relate to what happens when bits
of data from multiple users needs to be stored on updated at the
same time. Some scripts handle these situations well, but others
don't...

DATA CORRUPTION

Here's a common data corruption problem that can occur with many
scripts:

1. When some bit of data needs to be updated, a copy of the
server-side script starts running, and then starts updating it.

2. If another user comes along and does an update before the
first copy of the script has finished, a second copy of the
script starts running at the same time.

3. There are a number of ways things can now go wrong, for
example:

(a) What if the first copy of the script reads in the data, then
the second copy reads the same data, then the first copy updates
the data, then the second copy updates the data? Answer: any
changes made by the first copy of the script can get lost.

(b) What if the first and second copy of scripts are both adding
multiple bits of new data to the store at the same time? For
example, imagine each needs to store the headline, description
and the name of the person posting a classified ad. Well, what
can happen (with some scripts) is the two classified ads can get
intermingled, so you might get (for example) HEADLINE-1,
DESCRIPTION-1, HEADLINE-2, PERSON-1, DESCRIPTION-2, PERSON-2. Or
worse yet, you might get bits of each part of each classified
ad, mixed with the bits of the other. This type of thing is
usually really bad news, as your data may consequently becoming
unusable from that point on.

Does this sound too unlikely a problem to worry about? Don't
bank on it... even if it happens only 1 time in 1,000, or 1 in
10,000, eventually it will happen: You need a solution.

So the real question is: is it possible for programmers to
create scripts without these kinds of problems? Fortunately the
answer is yes, and there are a number of ways that programmers
can address it:

1. They can store each bit of data in a separate file. This
isn't necessarily a total solution by itself (in particular, a
script which just does this could still have problems if
multiple copies of a script update the same file at the same
time), but it does make data corruption less likely, and if
corruption does occur, at least it won't corrupt the entire data
store in one go.

2. They can use file-locking. This means that if one copy of a
script is working with a file, another copy of the script is
prevented from working on that file, until the first copy has
finished. File-locking works if done correctly, but programming
it into a script needs to be done very carefully and precisely,
for every single possible case... even a tiny bug or omission
can allow the possibility of data-corruption in through the
backdoor!

3. They can use a database (such as MySQL) to store the data.
Provided the data is properly structured in the database, the
database handles the locking automatically. And, as the
programmer doesn't have to write their own special locking
routines, the possibility of bugs and omissions are much reduced.

PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS

Of course, avoiding having your data corrupted should be the
paramount consideration in choosing a script, but is there
anything else we need to be concerned about?

Answer: Performance

Of course, all webmasters are aiming to build busy high traffic
web sites... but will your scripts be able to handle the load?

Go back and re-read the paragraph on file-locking. Now think
about what would happen if all the classified ads on your
classified page were stored in a single file (or all the links
on your top site, or all the subscribers to your autoresponder,
etc.).

What would happen?

Answer: Because each update can only be performed after the
previous update has been completely finished, your site may be
slow, or even unable to handle all your users' requests.

So what's the solution?

There's two options that programmers can use:

1. They can use lots of small files and file-lock each
individually (for example, one per classified, one per top site
listing, etc.). Of course, this needs to be handled very
carefully...

2. They can use a database (like MySQL), as databases allow any
one individual record ("row") to be updated, even when another
is also being updated.

IN CONCLUSION

Now, let's summarise:

1. Scripts that store data in files need to use file-locking to
avoid data-corruption, and they also need to break the data into
separately updateable chunks to avoid performance problems on
busy web sites.

2. Scripts that store data in databases (like MySQL), provided
of course that they have been properly coded, are usually less
likely to suffer from data-corruption or performance problems.

And one additional point:

3. Even the best script is not immune to hard-disk hardware
failures, your web host being struck by lightning, and all the
other snafus that can happen. So, do take regular back-ups of
any data that you can't afford to lose!

In short, even if you're not a script programmer, you need to be
aware of data storage issues. In future, when considering a
script for your web site, don't be afraid to ask some hard
questions about how it stores data and how well it handles
multiple users.

Understanding Trailer Brake Controllers

Author : Derek Chastain

<strong><br /></strong><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>An electric trailer brake controller is a device that supplies power from a tow vehicle to a trailer's electric brakes. There are two types of brake controllers on the market today - Time Delay Activated and Inertia Activated. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>While the controllers operate differently, they are very similar. Both types have the same wiring configuration. Both allow the driver to adjust the amount of braking power and both have a pressure sensitive manual override switch that can be used to apply the trailer brakes independently of the tow vehicle. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Time Delay Activated Brake Controls </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Time Delay Activated or &quot;solid state&quot; controllers are enabled by the depressing of the brake pedal in the tow vehicle. Once enabled, time delay activated controllers apply a gradual voltage to the trailer's brakes using a Time Delay Circuit. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The advantages of a solid state brake control unit are the inexpensive cost, low profile, and they can be mounted at any angle. The disadvantages mostly pertain to Hazard Flashers issues. In most applications the digital display will flash with the hazard flashers and if the gain is set aggressively, some pulsing of the trailer brakes may be felt. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Hazard Flasher issues can be resolved by using a Pulse Preventer that will isolate the brake control from the vehicles flashers, thus eliminating the pulsing. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Inertia Activated Brake Controls </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Inertia Activated Brake Controllers or Pendulum Style controllers are enabled by the depressing of the brake pedal and activated by a Pendulum Circuit that senses the stopping motion of the vehicle. The Pendulum Circuit applies a proportional voltage to the trailer's brakes. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>When the Inertia activated brake control is properly adjusted, the trailer will decelerate at the same speed as the towing vehicle. A result of this is increased braking efficiency and reduced wear on the brakes. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Advantages of pendulum style controllers are efficient braking under a variety of braking conditions including adverse conditions. They also have a smooth braking motion. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pendulum style controllers have a few disadvantages also. They tend to be larger than solid state controller. They usually more expensive and they must be mounted in a level position. Tekonsha's Prodigy controller is an exception. Due to its innovative technology, it can be mounted in almost any position. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Whether the brake control is Timer Activated or Inertia Activated, the gain can be adjusted by the user. Both feature a pressure sensitive switch that can be used to apply the trailer brakes independent of the tow vehicle. Most importantly, both styles achieve the same goal safely and reliably.
