For the coming fall season, Monarchia is releasing a new line-up of hand-crafted Hungarian wines from Tokaj, Villany, Szekszard, Eger and Buda-Etyek. Leading wineries include Vylyan, Zoltan Demeter, Monarchia, Nyakas and Takler. Wines will be available in both the United States as well as select countries of the European Union. New wines will be unveiled in Budapest next week at a Portfolio Tasting to be held for trade and press at the Andrassy Hotel, on September 22nd.An exciting array of hand-crafted, artisan quality Hungarian wines is entering the United States this fall, lead by top winemakers from the premiere vineyards of Hungary. The market will have a chance to taste some limited release, high-end Hungarian wines from the Monarchia Gold and Proprietor Selections, as well as broader based, value driven quality wines from the Estate Selection. Proprietor & Gold Selection red wines such as the Takler's Cabernet Franc '03 (120 cases produced), REGNUM Cuvee '02, NOIR Gold '03, and Bikaver Reserve '02 will be released at approximate retail values $90, $70, $33, and $25 respectively. From Vylyan Winery new releases include Gold Selection Pinot Noir '02 ($24), Bordeaux-style blend Mini Evolution '02 ($15), and the Zweigelt '01 ($17). Monarchia's own Eger vineyard will launch the Noir '03, featuring the Kekfrankos (Blaufrankisch-$15) varietal. On the white wine front Nyakas Cellars Sauvignon Blanc ($14) and Muller Thurgau ($12) are two fresh, aromatic white wines created by the producers of the Monarchia's Pinot Gris and Olivier. The selection is capped off by the wines of maverick winemaker Zoltan Demeter of Tokaj-Hegyalja, where Monarchia will introduce his Unfiltered Dry Tokaji Furmint with a 120 case release ($33). In addition, expect to see Demeter's Tokaji Aszu Essencia ($200 with a 661 bottle production) prior to the holidays.
